What We Do Not Take On
We work on garage doors and the hardware that runs them: springs, cables, rollers, tracks, openers, and panels, on houses across the McLean area and out to places like Tysons, Vienna-adjacent West Falls Church, and Great Falls. We don't do siding, fencing, or structural carpentry around the opening, and we won't quote work on commercial loading-dock doors over the phone sight unseen.
McLean's housing stock runs from 1940 to 2015, with most of it built in the 1960s and 1970s and a median year of 1977. That range matters because a lot of what we're asked to fix is original hardware on houses from that era - steel doors on side-mounted torsion springs that nobody stocks new parts for anymore. If your door is one of those and the track is bent beyond straightening, we'll tell you flat out that a repair isn't worth the money, and we'll quote a replacement instead of patching something that'll fail again in a winter or two.
We also don't promise a same-day fix on special-order panels or opener boards that have to come from the manufacturer. We'll tell you up front if your part falls into that category so you're not waiting on a truck that isn't coming today.
After You Call
Call (571) 517-9464 and tell us what the door is doing: won't open, won't close, makes a bang and stops, opener runs but the door doesn't move. That alone gets you a rough range. For a firm number we need a few more things - the door's width and height, whether it's a single or double, one-piece or sectional, and roughly how old it is. A photo from your driveway, including the springs and the track, tells us more in ten seconds than most phone descriptions do in five minutes.
Some things genuinely can't be priced without a tech standing in front of the door. A broken torsion spring on a double door is one job if the shaft and drums are fine, a different job if the cable has jumped the drum and chewed up the track on the way down. Opener problems split the same way: a bad circuit board is a part swap, a stripped gear on an old chain-drive unit sometimes means the whole unit should go.
Our shop is at 1313 Dolley Madison Blvd in McLean, which puts us close to the Pimmit Hills and West McLean side of town - West McLean runs about a mile south-southeast of us - so if you're nearby we can often swing by the same day we quote the job.
Plain Answers
Given McLean's cold winters, springs and cables take more cycling stress than they would in a milder climate, and that's the single biggest reason people call us for emergency service rather than a scheduled tune-up. A quote based only on a phone description is always a range, not a number - the final price depends on what's actually broken once we're looking at the shaft, the drums, and the track alignment, not just what the symptom sounds like.
We price by the job in front of us, not by a flat rate that ignores whether your door is a 1970s steel original or a newer insulated sectional door. Across the wider service area - 267,392 households and roughly 95,421 owner-occupied houses - the age and type of garage door varies block to block, which is exactly why we ask for details before we commit to a number.
One honest limitation: if your opener board or a specific panel has to be special-ordered from the manufacturer, we can't promise a turnaround time on that part, only on our own labor once it's in hand. We'd rather tell you that now than have you wait on a date we invented.
Frequently asked questions
Can you give me a price over the phone?
We can give a range based on what you describe - a broken spring, a dead opener, a bent track - but the firm number comes after we see the door. Width, height, door type, and age all change the price, and a photo helps a lot.
Is it ever cheaper to replace than repair?
Sometimes, especially on older steel doors from McLean's 1960s-70s housing stock where the track or panel is damaged beyond a clean fix. We'll say so directly rather than quote a repair that won't hold through another cold winter.
Do you work outside McLean itself?
Yes, we cover the surrounding area including Tysons, Pimmit Hills, Idylwood, Dunn Loring, Falls Church, and out as far as Great Falls and Oakton. Call with your address and we'll confirm.
What if my opener part is on backorder?
That happens with special-order boards and some older chain-drive units. We'll tell you up front if your part needs to come from the manufacturer so you're not waiting on a date we can't back up.
